3-in-1 The Motherload

I've been meaning to make a bunch of blogs on different things but haven't gotten around to it, so today you're in for a treat! 3 blogs in one!!
Part I
The theme this week is Cross-Cultural Training! Nothing too out of the ordinary except that our work duty on Thursday has been replaced with going to Tabor Home to visit with some elderly folks and to tell them all about Trek. We also have a prayer meeting at a church at 7 am tomorrow....it's early but we've been told that if we behave we get to go to A&W for breakfast!

Part II Prayer and Praises!
Praises first because there's a story that I forgot to tell from the Silent Retreat! Petra is one of the other girls on my team. For several years she had a problem with her right arm falling out of its socket quite easily and at random times. It was really painful for her and she had been seeing a specialist and was probably going to be scheduled for surgery sometime this year. During the silent retreat she was praying by herself in the prayer room when suddenly her arm was shaken violently. God asked her to raise her arm, she did and it felt great - better than it had in years. This past Tuesday she went to see her specialist once more and he told her that her right shoulder is now stronger than her left!! Praise God for healing! Prayer - please pray for Steve's chest! It still hurts from when he fell during the Amazing Trek (which was 4 weeks ago already!). We're thinking that he cracked a rib so pray for healing for that. Pray also that we will still stay engaged and focused during sessions - we're all really excited and it's getting harder to stay here when our minds are in Europe!

Part III Ukraine information!! 2 apartments have been rented for us, a smaller one will house 3 people and a larger one will house the other 4 and will probably be where we will meet and have meals. They're 20 minutes apart which isn't what we would call ideal because we will be separated but it will be great anyways. And we are SO thankful that we don't need to bring our own bedding!! None of us were looking forward to the extra bulk and luggage that would've taken! John and Evelyn have connections with the city of Zaporizhzhya so we will probably be doing a lot of community service projects. Because they've only been there for a year, we won't be working with a specific church. There are 4 MB churches in towns around Zaporizhzhya but none in the city itself. We will mostly be helping build relationships with people from the community and will be visiting different churches on Sundays. We also had a Russian lady named Lydia from the area come to the Mark Center one evening last week to teach us Russian. She is coming again tomorrow and I plan on getting my hands on a Russian dictionary as well before we head out.

PS As I was trying to post this blog the prayer and praises part came out in the teeniest tiniest letters ever no matter what I tried and it was normal-sized when I would go back to try and edit it. Not trying to over-spiritualize everything but in light of what we learned last week on Spiritual Authority I prayed and what do you know, it turned out. We know that satan is out there trying to attack anything we can bring to God's glory so we really have to be on our guard and ready with the full armour of God on! (Ephesians 6:14-17)

Weekend

This silly blog has seriously taken me forever to create!! So I hope you enjoy it!!
Friday afternoon was a beautiful sunny 15 degrees so after lunch we all lounged around outside singing songs and hanging out.
It was SO nice out that we decided to have the afternoon session out there as well. This led to many things, boys wrestling and rolling people around in the sleeping bag that Steve had brought out to sit on. Friday night we had a boys' night/girls' night. The boys played poker and watched a movie, and the girls went to Rosanna's place for food, games and pool time.

Saturday morning Steve and I got a ride to Surrey to James and Vanessa's place. We spent the day with them and Marilisa who came over for supper and a movie. Sunday we went to church with them and then our friend Jaclyn (who worked with Steve at Future Shop a couple of years ago) picked us up and we went on tour de Jaclyn (something like tour de France but your butt doesn't hurt at the end of it). First place was lunch at Las Margaritas. Delicious Mexican food!! We got teas in Kitsilano and headed over to the cutest little shop EVER called Cupcakes. I TOTALLY want to start a shop like this in Winnipeg, or maybe there already is one that I just don't know about yet! Someone tell me if you knew about this and didn't let me in on it!! It reminded me of a shop at Disney World, very girly and cutesy. My cupcake was called Versace. It was marble cake with chocolate buttercream icing with a button on top.
Next stop - the beach! Not sure which one.... doesn't really matter, it's not like we were swimming anyways! From there we toured through West and North Vancouver and then headed down Commercial Drive for supper at Uncle Fatih's pizza (Fatih is pronounced Fatty). It was a little tiny shop with pizza by the slice and it was SO good!! By this time it was pouring so the only logical thing to do was to get some gelato! We went to this place that had a billion different flavours!! Seriously! Long Island Iced Tea, Wasabi, Balsamic Vinegar (it tasted like feet). Here is Steve enjoying his coconut gelato (I got chocolate chocolate chip cookie dough). Then Jaclyn drove us back to the Mark Center and the weekend was over once again. Only one full one left in Canada!!

Spiritual Warfare

The topic we've been looking at so far this week has been spiritual warfare. Our speaker was Randy Friesen who is the general director of MBMSI and we learned some important truths that we felt lead to share.
The first thing we learned is that spiritual warfare isn't just going around casting demons out of people. 90% of spiritual warfare takes place in your own personal life, maintaining the things that Christ has set you free from and not giving that ground back to Satan. The other 10% is all that demon stuff.
As his text, Randy used mostly the book of Ephesians which is jam-packed full of good stuff, seriously if you've never read it please do, it's really powerful. It says in chapter 4:22-24, "You were taught with regard to your old former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitudes of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." So this basically says that every day we have to come under the authority of Christ in our speech, thoughts, attitudes and actions. This is a really really hard thing to put into practice every day. So hard in fact, that no one can do this on their own power. How then is it accomplished? Every morning we wake up and change clothes. We take off the old and put on the new clothes for that day. In the same way, we should be removing our old ways of life daily. An easy way to do this is by using PREP - waking up each morning, coming before God and
P - Proclaiming who God is, Proclaiming who I am in Christ (if you don't know, ask God)
R - Repent of anything satan can get a foothold on (eg. bad attitude) and
Resist by acknowledging our authority in Christ to resist these things
E - Entreat - ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit
P - put on the armour of God, read through the armour and verbally put it on for battle throughout the day (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Here's some random pictures from Sunday that we threw in for entertainment value.

Week 6

The theme for week 6 is Spiritual Authority. Monday we went to CBC to meet with Ministry Quest kids, kids from across North America who are in grades 11 and 12 and have been nominated by their churches to explore the ministry field. We were there representing Trek just getting the word out there on what we do and so forth. Yesterday we almost did a homeless dinner but it didn't work out in the end so we ended up stuffing envelopes at MBMSI again. That's about it for the week so far!

Gotta Love Those Lazy Weekends

Friday night we all went to House of James to spend the gift cards we won on the Amazing Trek. We ended up with a couple of books, and Steve bought a new Bible. Saturday morning found Steve relaxed and already well into the first book, 23 Minutes in Hell by Bill Wiese.
After lunch a group of us headed to the laundromat to accomplish some cleanliness.

During the wait period, we ran over to MCC and Steve devoured more of his book.

For supper, 11 out of the 13 of us dressed up and headed off to Bangkok Thai restaurant for a group Valentine's Day celebration. This is Steve and I in what we would call a classy photo. Notice the lack of 'stache.... and there was much rejoicing! Except for Steve, he's always sad when the moustache goes. But it will be back someday, that's a promise.
Back at the MC (Mark Center) we took a lovely group photo. We spent the rest of the evening playing games in the Great Room.
Sunday morning we went to Ross Road Community Church and then spent the afternoon playing soccer, going for a walk and the like. We went to Lori's house for a wonderful spaghetti supper and games. We discovered a new game that's really fun! It's called Ticket to Ride and is really cool. We also played a little Rockband and watched the Amazing Race. This is the new sweet suitcase we picked up for $5 at MCC. Not going to lose this one at an airport either...it'll be on the luggage carousal right next to Big Brown.

Kak de la!!!

Today's work duty was awesome!! We headed out of Abbotsford to Steve Klassen's house for the whole afternoon. Steve lives on a hazelnut farm on the Fraser River valley and this picture is pretty much what they see out behind their house every day. Imagine having your morning coffee with this every morning? Ridiculous!! (the river is at the bottom where you can't really see it, it's a zoomed in pic for the mountains)
So right off the bat Steve K. told us that we were supposed to be having fun today. There was a morning a little while ago with a lot of frost and some of the branches broke off some of the hazelnut trees so we spent the afternoon cleaning up branches and making the biggest fire we possibly could!
Steve in the wild....gets a little crazy!
Around 3:30 was coffee time, which was rhubarb platz made by Steve K's mother-in-law. It was delicious!
Steve K. is also known for making the best chai tea on earth, no joke, so he made a huge pot of that for us to enjoy as well. Steve had the power of the moustache on his side today, and even convinced Dan that he needed one as well so they could be creepers together!!

This is the deck at the back of the Klassen property. Man, pictures just don't do anything justice!! I could have sat there all day and just stared at creation!!

These are hazelnut trees.
The branches were all so wet and the fire we had going kept dying so we resorted to good old gasoline for a helping hand. Unfortunately, it didn't really help either... The cart boys were shouting "Kak de la!" all day, which in Russian means "How are you", but they've started using it as a greeting, to express anger and frustration, as a pick up line, or just shouting it out randomly. So throughout the day we heard from across the way "kak de la!" or when they'd drop off a load of branches it would be thrown around by everyone.
Finally, the last 20 minutes before the sun went down, we finally got a roaring, successful fire!!
It was then time for a barbecue with the Klassen family before heading back to the Mark Center.

You did WHAT? To who??

Street Evangelism.....and we're not talking handing out food to homeless people, we're talking walking up to people and telling the good news of Jesus Christ! You're probably thinking terrifying thoughts right now and so were we, but after the past 2 days it's not nearly as terrifying. We went out yesterday afternoon with the MTIers (Mission Training Institute) and basically just watched and learned. I was paired with Rachel and we went out with Phil Harris, who was actually our speaker this week so it was extra-scary because we were with the teacher!!! Steve went out with Rachael and Dave was their MTI partner. Between Steve and I, we both had really different experiences, so I'll tell you mine and then I'll get Steve to tell you his....... this is the whole group of us who were sent out yesterday and today!!Jo's Experience: So our mission was door-to-door evangelism. I had total mixed feelings about it, but it turned out to be very non-invasive and quite lovely. And I kind of figured that if the JW's get lots of people that way why can't Christ?? We drove around for the first while just praying and seeing where we would be led. We ended up in Aldergrove in a neighbourhood filled with townhouse complexes. We had Ross Road Community Church flyers with tracts inside them and we went door to door asking people if they would like one and then if they'd be interested in answering a short questionnaire on the spiritual feelings of the neighbourhood. From their answers, Phil would segue into the gospel message. So the very first house we started at was a family who were mormons. He had been one for 4 years but his wife had been one since she was a kid. Therefore, we got a 45 second run down on everything they believe and Phil talked through it a little bit with her until she got pushy and then we left. The second lady we met had 30 cats in her townhouse and 200 more in shelters in the area. Phil explained the gospel to her but she couldn't understand how God is good and loving if he lets so many cats die...especially when people shoot them in the face with bee bee guns. So that conversation was done as well. Another lady was really interested and we went through the whole salvation message with her, got her number and gave her numbers of people she could call when she was ready to take the next step, so that was really cool. Spent pretty much the whole day around the one complex. Today was Rachel's and my crack at it. We were SO nervous going in to it, but I studied my 5 point gospel message last night and in the end, never even got to use it. Disappointing!! We started the same way, driving around praying and ended up again in Aldergrove. We started on some townhouses that we had seen yesterday. The very first lady at the very first house pretty much shouted at me, so it was off to a great start!! And the rest of the day was really no better. Talked to a few people, left tracts with people. We encountered a lot of rejection today all the way across the board...it could have been discouraging but at the end of the day we were still full of joy! We met one lady who said she's pagan, and we prayed for her because she's been sick for 3 days. She wasn't comfortable answering our questions but was happy that we prayed for her and hopefully God will turn that into something amazing! And some people were just really excited about the church information so that was great to see as well.

Steve's Experience: So we went on a tangent of not knowing what to do. Both days we started by just praying and going through some local news papers. After prayer from the community and guidance, we headed for walks. Day one we walked around a slummy area, but it was cold outside so we only talked to one guy and didn't get to spirituality. So we headed to Timmy's for a hot one. It was here we once again were too scared to talk to anyone, so we chatted and prayed a bit. We then decided to try some door to door at a local trailor park. There the first house we went to was a lady with three teenage daughters whom she was the stepmother of. She made this sound like it was a tough road and told us they didn't really go to church. So we chitchatted a bit and offered her some info on a local church. We even offered prayer but she declined. This was a bit of a boost since the rest of the day seemed to be somewhat unproductive. We visited a few more houses, with the last being the home of a JW. This man was quite obviously miss guided and had some physical illnesses. He took it upon himself to instead convert us. We quickly gave him our info and bolted. Day one was a learning experience which set us up for today. So day two we prayed again then walked around a local park but had not much luck there. Our guide Dave talked to a lady for a bit but I was off trying to find my own prey. No luck so we went to the mall looking and praying for oportunities there. Once again my fear got the best of me and I didn't talk to anyone, while Dave once again did. I tried sitting on a bench for about half an hour but no one sat beside me, which was my plan to talk to them after the sitting commenced. So now we were short on time and hadn't really done alot so we decided to try door to door again. Once again door one we knocked on was fruitful. This time I was doing all the talking, which was realitively simple since this was a sweet little old lady by the name of Maria. She originally came from the molotschna colonies in present day Ukraine. This as some of you know is where alot of mennonite background has spurred from and three out of four of Jo's grandparents were born there. She also spoke Russian which I am studying for Ukraine. We talked a bit and then prayed for her and her familly which had some ailments and a grandson on with YWAM. She was awesome so I tried my luck at a few more, with minimal success. Two people accused me of soliciting even when I said I didn't want any money. This was pretty much it, nothing too exciting. Just a bit of practice, prayer, and a sweet old lady who me and Jo might see if we can visit.

Week 5...what? Already??

The weekly schedule is brought to you in part by the Olympus Stylus 850SW and the letter M. The theme this week is EVANGELISM!!! For most people, this subject is terrifying. For me, it's no different. Steve on the other hand is quite excited for what the week has to offer, namely the street evangelism tomorrow and Wednesday afternoons and how that might equip us for when we get home. Tomorrow we're following around and learning from some people who are in MTI (Missionary Training Institute...I think) here in Abbotsford as they do their normal everyday evangelism stuff (knocking on doors, chatting in parks, etc). Wednesday afternoon we're actually the ones who have to do the talking and the leading while the MTI'ers look on and pray for us. EEEEK. That being said, I think Steve Klassen talked about having a bonfire for work duties on Thursday, there's lots of free time this week and the weekend is another free weekend so the rest of the week should be slightly less terrifying for myself personally. I'm going to throw out a prayer request or two as well.... that we'll say what the Holy Spirit leads us to say on Wednesday when we're actually the evangelists and just pray for us as we enter week 5.... we're halfway done and I'm experiencing a bit of self-doubt and lack of motivation. So if you could add those to your lists that would be really appreciated!

Weekend

We got our new camera! Thanks Ma and warranty! This weekend was a free weekend with no plans, schedules or obligations. Friday night a bunch of us spent time in the hot tub and then we watched Schindler's List in the Great Room. Late Saturday morning it was time for some haircuts.
It's funny because this picture was a set up, but I ended up cutting all these people's hair anyways!
It looks like I kind of still know what I'm doing!!
Late Saturday afternoon we caught a ride into Surrey and spent the night at James and Vanessa's house. We had pizza night, watched some movies (that were made all the more awesome because Steve kept a kill count during Taken; hand kills, gun kills, and tool kills. It was pretty hilarious). This morning we went with James and Vanessa to Real Life Community Church, and before they dropped us off we all took a walk around Mill Lake here in Abbotsford. Steve was testing out some of the settings on our new camera this evening and I thought that this picture turned out pretty cool. I was actually shaking the camera from side to side and it turned out really clear. I'm impressed.

The Who's Who of Trek

I realize now that I've never gone over all the people who make up Trek so I've been talking about people and you may not know who any of them are. So here's a quick rundown, a little 411 on everyone in our lives.

Leadership Team
Luke Haidle - Trek director, leads some sessions, basically in charge of everything
Lori Nickel - Trek administrator, does sessions and stuff
John Best - former director of Trek, Steve's training mentor
Christy Best - John's wife, my training mentor
Gay Best - John's mom, our volunteer cook, grandma, confidant, encourager
Steve Klassen - co-founder of Trek, owns the Mark Center (where we live), leads sessions
Rosanna Toews - works for MBMSI, is wonderful, comes for lunch, supper and to hang out

Team Ukraine
Steve and Jo - I wonder who those people are. They sound crazy.
Joel and Petra Martens - the other married couple
Kristine Debbink - from Abbotsford, really really energetic
Daniel Bergman - a Winnipeg boy, worship leader extraordinaire
Travis Hildebrand - prone to concussions, crazy energetic and fun

Team Lithuania
Tyler Suderman - from Kansas, great worship leader
Rachel Wiebe - from Winnipeg, eclectic, fun girl
Rachael Wiebe - yeah it's true there's 2, from Abbotsford
Zach Buller - from Oklahoma, very technologically minded
Phil Davis - more energy than any person should be allowed
Jenny Wiens - she's a Wiens but we still like her *wink*

Hope I didn't miss anyone! And I hope that gives you a better idea of who it is we're talking about when we name-drop.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

So here's the deal. What I forgot to tell you in the last post is that right at the very beginning of the Amazing Trek on Saturday, Steve attempted to jump over a 2 foot fence, but he slipped on ice and ended up smashing his chest into the fence and scraping his knee, causing it to bleed.
In the process our camera which was in his pocket got smashed. So not only was he in pain all day, but we don't have a camera (even though the one we were using was already a loaner because our good one was getting fixed and it turns out we just get a new one altogether).
So that all said, I can't post a schedule for the week and I know you're all SOOO disappointed! DON'T DESPAIR!! I will tell you all a wonderful tale of what the week looks like and I'll try to keep it brief (and Steve by the way is still in pain with his rib/chest area).
This week's theme is Team/Church Building. So far the focus has been on our own personality styles and conflict resolution, relinquishing our rights, and the purpose of the church and how to keep that purpose without going too corporate and inward-facing.
The rest of the week we have Philip Serez and Gord Fleming speaking to us, but I don't know what their topics are. I'm assuming they're the same idea and so forth.
The relinquishing our rights session really hit a chord with me. We basically went through the different things that we feel in our culture that we have a "right" to. Without getting into too much detail, there were things like the right to our time and future plans, the right to our stuff, the right to see the wrong in the world and remain a callous individual, and the right to live or die. Our speaker for that session painted a beautiful picture of families and how you see them as "yours" when really they are placed on this earth for God's purpose and to glorify Him. It was really amazing to see from that perspective and in seeing it that way it gives enormous amounts of freedom to our lives.
ANYWAYS, this weekend is the first totally FREE weekend we have! Steve's plan is to climb a mountain. I think a few other people are on board with that, I'm not sure what will all go down with that yet. Steve really wanted to post this on the Whiteshell Wanderers blog site (http://www.whiteshellwandering.blogspot.com/) but since it's not in the Whiteshell it may just have to go on as an anonymous adventure.

This is just a preview of the look and the victory yell Steve will let out at the top of whichever mountain he conquers.

Amazing Trek - Absolute Physical Annihilation

Where do I begin?? I'll start Friday night when the leaders reminded us that Amazing Trek starts at 9 a.m and would go till about 1 p.m. At 5:30 a.m there was a loud knock on the door. "The Amazing Trek has begun. You have 7 minutes to get down to the parking lot". And so it began. The first task was to look at all the items on the back of a truck in the dark, remember them and write them down on a piece of paper. Our team got 19 out of the 27 things right so we had a 10 minute head start for the next task - finding 7 red bandanas, one for each member of our team, on the Mark center property. We ended up trading the other team for our last one and started off to the next task way ahead.
We ran down Old Yale road to Clearbrook road where we met Greg (the organizer of all of this) in a parking lot. The task was to pick up change with our toes. Keep in mind that this is 6 in the morning and there is FROST on the parking lot! It was awful! Half way through the other team showed up, which showed our team that the day was off to an unfair start, which was a trend that frustratingly continued all day long.
With the change, we had to go to McDonalds and buy a breakfast to take to an apartment way down Clearbrook. We started in the wrong direction but corrected quickly. The other team was not so fortunate, and they ran 5 blocks in the wrong direction before figuring it out, haha!
Once we got the the right place, Greg told us it was the wrong place, we ran all the way back to the road, he phoned for the address again, and it turns out we were right so we had to run all the way back to the first place we had found, SO frustrating! But it was a breakfast of gross things like olives, snails, oatmeal milk, gross brown drink with globs in it, spam, raw weiner-things and stuff like that. The other team showed up but couldn't come in until we were done so we took our time and rested a bit.
The next step was Starbucks on South Fraser Way. On the way there we crossed a street with a car coming, and Travis dropped his cell phone half way across. He had just grabbed it as Steve grabbed him and threw him onto the sidewalk and he rolled his ankle as he landed. It was hilarious until we realized he was actually hurt! So some of the guys carried him to the Starbucks and then he ended up being okay. From Starbucks we were on a photo scavenger hunt to do some different things and then we had to develop the best one at SuperStore and take it to a car in the parking lot. Here are some of our best pictures:

After getting the picture developed, we had to go back into SuperStore and find the prices on 10 items. From there we got a reference for a library book that we had to find at a library. It was 9 a.m when we got the the library and it didn't open until 10. We were SO mad because the other team was 45 minutes behind us and now they'd have time to catch up and we'd lose our lead! So we hid behind a snowbank so that hopefully they'd keep going to the next library. They did go on by, or so we thought, so we gave the all clear and the first person to stand up was Dan. He stood straight up and a girl from the green team was standing RIGHT at the bottom of the hill. Dan did the most stealthiest move I've ever seen in my life! He did this awesome slow motion flop onto the ground and then log-rolled under the fence back behind the snowbank. It was just the thing to break the tension and make things fun again. But the other team saw us anyways so we ended up going down to the library. The green team was wandering away so we decided to hide around a corner where Steve shook a squirrel off a fence. And then at 10 a.m we all ran into the library. Green team found their clue first so it was a foot race to the next place. We ran to some outdoor stadium and Team Red ended up beating them there other than Steve who was off trying to look for a different building. So 3 people from our team had to run backwards around the track while we took turns dunking our faces into a bowl of pudding to look for gummy worms and then dunking our faces into a bowl of rice krispies to look for a 2nd gummy worm. It was disgusting to say the least but our team got the clue first and again we were off and running. We missed a bus on South Fraser Way but Travis took one for the team by running it down and we all managed to get on. We took it down to a Sikh temple where we were supposed to have lunch. However, we were all covered in pudding and felt SO disrespectful for going in looking gross. When we finally worked up the courage to do it, they kicked us out. So we phoned Luke (Trek director) and he told us to go to a temple on the other side of Abbotsford! We were nice and phoned the other team to tell them what was happening but we were mad when we went back to a bus stop and waited around for a bus. We got on one after about 10 minutes but it was the wrong one so we got off and waited another 15 minutes for the next one. In the meantime we sang songs, Dan busked in front of the bus stop (people literally walked behind us and WAY around to avoid him, it was hilarious) and we took pictures of us all spelling "Ukraine" in sign language. We finally caught the right bus and there were these 2 old ladies who told us that we had to entertain them, so Travis did a magic trick and we sang Amazing Grace for them. We just finished and the Green Team got on the same bus!! Immediately talks started and we agreed that Red team would win (because we have 7 people) and we'd split all the gift card prizes among everyone. We were all satisfied with this, hugged the old ladies good-bye and dismounted at the Sikh temple. Sikh temples are an interesting place to be. We had to take off our socks and shoes, wear head coverings and wash our hands a LOT. These lunches are open to the public but we were the only white people there. You get your food (which was naan bread, green snot-looking stuff that was spicy and good, liquidy sour cream stuff and sweet rice) and boys sit on the floor on one side and girls sit on the floor on the other. An old man came around with oranges afterwards that we had to receive with 2 hands. Apparently the boys didn't know this (who would???) and some of the older men were upset but whatever, then write the rules on the wall for outsiders to read so we don't do stuff wrong next time! We bussed back to the first apartment we went to for "breakfast", pretended we were still rivals and did some mind games. Then we ran out to a field for an obstacle course where Steve was blind-folded, Dan was mute and had to act out what Steve should be doing while Kristine couldn't look at the course but was shouting out what Steve should do by watching the actions Dan was doing. It took a few tries before we got it, and it was SO frustrating to watch, and the guys in charge kept changing the course the whole time, so it really sucked.
But we got out of there before the other team and headed off, in a van FINALLY to Lori's (asst. director of Trek) house to literally find a needle in a haystack. Needless to say we hadn't found it after 45 minutes so we got our other clue and left. The next station we had 20 minutes to make up a dance routine to a song we didn't hear, and then we had to perform it and get marked. It was hilariously fun and such a fun thing to be doing right after something so tedious!!This picture is of the finale of our dance when Travis jumps across into everyone's arms and Petra and I in front do jazz hands. It was a pretty awesome dance! The final station of the day was driving out into the country to Steve and Evy Klassen's house (Steve is the Mark Center guy). They're house is on a hazelnut farm and looks out over the Fraser valley and WOW was it amazing! The task was to shoot paintballs with a sling shot to receive certain amounts of matches, to build a fire to burn a rope that was holding a bag of groceries in a tree. Each team was given a raw egg first thing in the morning and had to carry it all day to this point without breaking it to cook over the fire we built. I was in charge of the egg and it was safely held in my person all day. We had left the haystack thing before the Green Team had even shown up, so they were at least 45 minutes behind us. But lo and behold, they showed up here about 15 mintues after we started this task so obviously again were being helped along the way by not having to stay as long at each place. The last thing was to get dropped off at a certain place and run up the hill to the Mark Center and then it was done. Our team had some confusion and lack of communication as to where to be so the Green Team ended up getting there first anyways. There was pizza supper waiting for us so we gobbled it down and had a debrief to go over why they made us do all of this. It turns out it was the best way they could introduce stress to our teams so that we could see how everyone reacted under pressure. I think our team did really well, and the Green Team spilled the beans that we had met up and decided to not compete, just to get through it. So we all get $25 gift cards to either WalMart or House of James. And we all get to be so sore that we can't walk for a few days!!!
