This was my first train ride but Steve's 2nd. The 1st one was a 36 hour ride from Winnipeg to Churchill and in memory of that trip, this must be said: "On the train the sandwiches were good, but the ice cream...................................................................was EXCELLENT!"
Travelling by train is by far the best way to travel because there are beds! They even provide mattresses, pillows and clean sheets. Unfortunately the temperature isn't regulated and it was 30 degrees during the afternoon.
This was the first day of touring through Feodosia when we went to the fortress ruins and pictures don't do any justice to how gorgeous the Black Sea is!!
Built in the 14th century, Christopher Columbus hung out here before sailing over to discover America. Crazy old!
This is inside the one fortress tower.
This is a Nazi bunker from WWII. Behind it in the background is a tower that was also built during the war and used as a lookout over the Black Sea. The Black Sea used to be a large trading port, however it is said that there are many mines still under the water so ships coming in and out are limited.
The water was SO cold but we each went swimming...Steve for 2 minutes in actual swimwear, myself in my jeans and t-shirt for about 15 seconds.
This lion was in the town in an area of old mansions along the waterfront. It is apparently super old, I don't remember exactly how old but it's something like 2000 years old. The city itself dates back to before Jesus' time but there's really nothing around to prove that.

First of all, I've heard the Churchill trip many times from Steve and Dusty and everytime it cracks me up... good stuff!!
Secondly, I see you visited mine and Chris Columbo's (or as I liked to call him; CC) old hangout. I remember it like yesterday, we would run and laugh, pretending to be real sailors on new adventures... but one day he was simply gone. He also talked crazy talk about some new land, but I don't know how that panned out for him.
Wow. Very cool. I hope you tossed a grenade in that bunker before you went in! You never know. Looks very, very, very interesting. Take care.
you goin on train rides without me?? where are we?? Gilliam?
Well I must say that i did try to get ahold of Dusty to come for the train ride and i'm sorry it couldn't happen, but you would have been glad cause halfway through the trip i woke up in the isle with my pants gone and little native kids running everywhere! Oh and we pass Camora. Does anyone have a dollar? Oh yes dad i threw a couple of g-nades in but once again no battle was actually goig on. I may just have to go into the peace keeping biz. It seems everytime i go to to a battle field the war is over? Wierd I think! Oh yeah Jer, I can't wait to tell you the story about the train and how excellent some of the food was, along with how many interesting things to take pics of, door handles, seats, tables, oh you name it this train had it! That CC dude sounds rude, just leaving you like that! Oh well I'm sure he never amounted to much, good ridance!
I don't know what sea you guys were looking at but it was totally blue in the picture and not black. It may have been lost in translation.
