We drove out to Nicolaipolia today to visit Garry and Teresa. I generally have my camera at the ready in most situations here, and driving is no different because you just never know when you're going to snap a picture worth a thousand words.....like four men on a motorcycle with a *probably homemade* sidecar:
My weather app said that it was +25 today and I'm not sure it was quite that warm, but I'd give it a solid +23 for sure. Farming season has begun:
We took a walk through the village with Garry and Ray - the first arrival of their Canadian work team, the rest of whom are arriving on Sunday. This is the "play structure":
This house will be divided into one classroom and three apartments for students who have graduated out of the trade school program but have not yet found jobs elsewhere:
Garry said that it will be livable in three weeks:
We stopped by the store and grabbed some things for lunch, which were added up by the clerk on her abacus:
Then it was time to prepare the fire for shashlik:
Walnuts from their trees that were soooooo addictive.....they were so delicious!
Waiting for the meat to cook while playing croquet:
August, busted being mean to the cat who didn't really seem to mind:
Some not-so-baby baby cows:
This guy licked at my camera and almost got me.
Inside the old barn on Garry and Teresa's yard:
The massive new barn is still waiting for the milking parlour to be put in and the Canadian team is bringing more equipment for it this week.
We got to see some of the trade school students and the group home parents that we know from them coming to Just Youth events. It was so nice to spend the day out there! The guys thought maybe they'd be able to help do some work but Garry seemed pretty happy that we were there to give him an afternoon off! Maybe we'll head back out there during the next couple of weeks to do some actual work while the work team is out.
Have I mentioned that it's SO NICE to have a car??? Because it is!!! We thank God for it every day!
