So this morning at 9 a.m we had a worship session that started with finding out our teams and where we'd be heading come March. We were all nervous and antsy, and as Luke displayed the teams on the projector there was a dead silence throughout the whole entire room. They then headed directly into the worship songs which was a brilliant idea to let everything soak in. It was a hard day for Steve but he's trusting God to bring him peace in knowing that His purpose will be served. So if you could keep that in your prayers that would be awesome. ANYWAYS so
now for the information part! We are in a team of 7 that will be headed to the Ukraine!! We will be meeting with the lovely couple pictured below who are apparently extremely excited that we will be joining them.
We will be serving in the city of Zaporizhzhya. It is an industrial city with a million people on the Dneiper River. It has a culture broken by alcoholism, occultism, 70 years of oppression and an 80% divorce rate. We will more than likely be working with some youth groups, in churches, helping with labour like gardening for elderly people and visiting an orphanage or 2 while we are there among other things.
All evening we've had Russian language programs running in the the Great Room. It's been really fun to learn so far and it feels like we're actually going somewhere now. Although it already feels that as a whole group we're really splitting apart so we're trying to combat that as well!
As far as funding goes, we still need some support, but we're close to our goal and would like any funds directed to us instead of MBMSI. After a certain point we can't give tax receipts as well as any money sent to MBMSI over and above the amount we need gets sent out to other MBMSI programs and we won't have access to it for our other needs. So if it comes directly to us we can play that one as it comes. If you still feel lead to support us, we would be very grateful and you can send it to Steve's Mom Mary-Lou, at our address (contact me for that information).
Thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers and we'll continue to keep you all updated as we find out more!!!

Yay! So exciting!
We were in that city 17 years ago, and even at that time, it was a very sad scene, what you describe sounds very familiar. It is a few hours drive from where Grandma and Grandpa Voth, and Opa Friesen were born. We continue to pray for you guys! Love you!
That's so cool that it's so close to where they were born! I hope we have some exploring time!
That couple is from Vancouver.. they spoke at our church before they left for their missions. John spoke at our youth group once. He's a counsellor. Even counselled some people from our church! Super nice couple. On Corner Gas the other day they were doing Ukrainian dancing, i thought of you! hha.. maybe you'll get to do some of that too?!!
I was hoping we'd get a lesson in Ukrainian dance once we get there! And that couple's home church is GracePoint so I was kind of wondering you'd heard of them before!
yet another reason bc does not suck. its missionaries like John Evelyn Wiens. way to go, home land.
praying for you both, i hope the choice of team members is one that will prove to become a strong unit in your quest to serve. be open to finding each persons gift, what they can offer to make your team that much stronger. everybody's got them, its just a matter of recognizing them and using them to your advantage (and that includes the both of you!)
miss ya.
meesh.
Team Leader wiens' you know you got it made
sorry, i haven't been on blog watch here all week due to exams and marking blah blah blah. Good work on the Dutch Sheets book, the guy is a quack, I'm happy to hear the one true God of the Bible has steered you away from some of these so called "Christian" books. There is a lot of garbage out there that claims to be Christian, knowing your Bible and praying makes discernment all the easier. Is this the book the one that says something about praying "bowls" full so angels can bring them to God and only then can he release his power?! he claims God has limits right? crazy kook that Sheets is. hope things are well, Ukraine sounds cool, shout out to the Wiens' in the Ukraine...
Yeah Toby, that is the one with the bowls. Apparently God can only make something happen, if we fill the prayer bowl! Oh and it's awesome to pray upon apiece of cloth and then cut it up. Put it in different places so the holy spirit can get rubbed off on others! Just so you know VooDoo is alive and kicking.
Well Ukraine sounds like a very positive place and should be a super duper time. I just don't see any reason why they would send a missions team there? Oh well maybe I missed something. That is awesome! Whats so weird about the Dutch guy is he a queer?
ya, well i'm glad you guys were heads up enough to know when you were reading blasphemous material. There is a lot of pagan rituals out there that people seem to go for...keep on keeping on, fight the good fight
Well Todd, People need help everywhere! Even in Winnipeg so when we get back a new journey will begin!
