Whistler Weekend

Our weekend in Whistler began Friday morning when we packed up the 3 vans and started out. We headed up the Sea to Sky highway from Vancouver but it was really foggy so we didn't really see any kind of view. When we got to our chalet, we unloaded and headed back into the village for a photo scavenger hunt! It was hilariously fun, and the prize for the winning team was fancy apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
This is the chalet we stayed in. It was a 6 level split, and we counted beds for 35 people.
The evening after supper was spent in worship and getting to know our team. We also got to see all the scavenger hunt pictures and the winning team was announced. Neither Steve nor my teams won, for more information about Steve's disappointing rob-of-a-loss, talk to him personally! This was the sunset view out of the kitchen/living room floor of the chalet (which was really really nice, gold carpets, wood panelling and all).
Saturday was a free day to see the sights. Steve decided to go snowboarding and left at 7:30 to get prepped to hit the slopes.
This is at the top of Whistler where the gondola ends. You can from here ride across the Peak 2 Peak gondola which I will talk more about later!
Learning a lesson from Kristine, the experienced member of our team who was happy to teach Steve as well as 2 other guys the ropes.
I with my friend Rachael decided to get sight-seeing passes! These included the gondola ride up Whistler, and as many rides on the Peak 2 Peak as we wanted. We took advantage of that by travelling across 6 times. The Peak 2 Peak goes from Whistler to Blackcomb and at it's highest point is over 6000 feet off the ground. It's the longest free-hanging gondola anywhere. It was awesome! This pic is coming up the the tower right before the gondola ends. There was one of these on each side and nothing in the middle.
There were 2 cars that had glass bottoms in the middle, and that was really cool but I didn't get any really really good shots through it because it had water on it and stuff from all the skiiers and boarders going across. That white strip on the ground is the path the gondola follows, you can't really see the cars or the lines because it's just THAT far and high.
We had a celebretory Coke at the top and yes, Coke does taste better on top of a mountain.
After our day of sight-seeing, Steve accidentally deleted ALL the snowboarding pictures he took during the day from our camera, so he was terribly disappointed....we stole all these pics from the people we were with!! The evening was spent with more sharing and delicious brownies. Sunday morning we cleaned the chalet, went to the Whistler Community Church and then headed out on the road again. This is our fun vanride home, Steve at the wheel, me with shotgun. NO ONE here calls that EVER! On the way home it was bright and sunny so we got gorgeous views of God's creation!!

That is the same chalet that our CBC choir retreats were held in every fall. Funny. Did anyone scale the multitude of balconies? I think I almost lost my life on those balconies.

I must say that I am a little disappointed that neither of you won the photo scavenger hunt. So with all these rooms did you have so much room for doing activities? Were there bunk beds for the added space for activities? Are these fancy apples as good as fancy sauce?

No I am pretty sure BC does suck. It's a harsh truth but it is truth. Sorry Michelle.
